The guy’s guide to the coolest, easiest outfits ever

I’ve said this before and I will forever say it again: guys are so lucky.

I mean, not every girl can get away with wearing black skinny jeans and a grey t-shirt and still look great.  Guys however, most definitely can.

So you have the guys who just wear the simplest things and we’re all like “wow”. Then some guys decide to shock you and step up the game a bit with a shirt, or a shirt with a sweater over the top, or a printed tee with a leather jacket; let’s not even talk about those lucky bastards who wear jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers and radiate cool. How do they do it?!

The answer is simple; self confidence. You could literally wear a tailored sack and as long as you feel great in it, the people around you sense it and start believing in your tailored sack too. How do you think models make everything that comes down a runway look good? It’s not because every piece in every collection is incredible, it’s because the designer’s enthusiasm encourages the model to feel their best regardless of what they’re wearing for that instant that the world sees them. The same principle applies with guys. The best dressed men I know don’t wear couture suits, but wear the simplest things and unintentionally use their confidence to make the whole outfit work.

Alternatively, guys can also accessorise a super simple outfit with beanies, scarves, and statement sneakers or classically elegant brogues or loafers. The opportunities are endless, affordable and achievable for anyone. Just look at these photos and try to tell me that any one of these outfits is hard to replicate.

Be original and think about what’s going to be the easiest style for you. All you have to do is stock up on the basics and mix it up with some cool statement pieces, trust me, it’s easy!

Also, in case you haven’t noticed by my constant lack of men’s fashion posts, I am stuck for ideas! What would you guys like to see more of? Scroll right to the bottom of the page and comment any ideas you may have and i’ll get right on it!

Uni Chic

So tomorrow I have my first day of university orientation, or as everyone except me seems to call it “O-Week”. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little nervous, but then every time I think I’m nervous I remember that I don’t actually have any classes, and just have a “welcome lecture” and then I’m finished by 11am…

One thing that has been on my mind since I got into university is that I need to buy things specifically for uni, such as basic tops, another pair of jeans/pants, and maybe another jacket or two, not to mention a pair of black converse and flat boots…

So far, out of that whole list I have purchased a black Agent Ninteynine tote bag from General Pants, and a Marc by Marc Jacobs cosmetics case… I obviously needed a plain tote bag for school considering i’ll need a bag that’s big enough to carry books, my laptop and an iPad, while also versatile enough to use every day with any outfit. The cosmetics case on the other hand was an impulse buy after deciding that I needed a case to carry essentials in the event that I needed to touch up after a long day or if I was in a rush and didn’t get a chance to put on/finish my makeup routine. I work at David Jones for Mimco and therefore am located in the contemporary handbags department, and various Marc by Marc Jacobs items were on the counter and after a long shift, I couldn’t help myself!

In the edit above I have tried to be a little creative with potential outfits that I can wear to uni; who says that school attire has to be boringly casual? Did we learn nothing from NYFW street style?!

Now I’ve got you in my space, I won’t let go of you

Now I've got you in my space, I won't let go of you

I absolutely love this casual look, it’s stylish, comfortable and practical, and what’s better than an easy go-to outfit for a day out with friends?

I’ve also had a little play with prints, both on t-shirts and wall art, and I think that regardless of the text, it can be cool, calm and á la mode at the same time, especially if it’s something that’s personalised to your personality, so in this instance, a Beyoncé reference is on point.

I’d also like to mention that if you haven’t already, listen to Sam Smith‘s acoustic version of Latch… Just trust me on this.

An organised mess

Wardrobes can be a woman’s best friend and worst enemy.

I’ve had a few emails asking to see my wardrobe, and it’s nothing special in comparison to some other wardrobes, but the contents of that wardrobe is something i’m gradually becoming very proud of.

But, there is one thing that I cannot stand, and that it is clutter. I can’t think, I can’t focus and I can’t make decisions, therefore a messy wardrobe is not an option for me.

Above are photos of my wardrobe, which may look a bit messy to you, but to me, it is an organised haven of possible outfits and accessories!

I literally have everything hanging in an order… By memory it goes

  • Newest pieces
  • Skirts
  • Jeans
  • Singlets
  • Cami’s
  • Plain T-shirts
  • Printed T-shirts
  • Open/Button up knits
  • Knitted jumpers (Organised by brand)
  • Hoodies
  • Active Wear
  • Vests
  • Jackets
  • Coats
  • Sentimental pieces that can’t be flattened into a box

I know, It sounds almost OCD, but it’s not, in fact, it’s actually one of the best systems I could have thought of. I can literally get ready in record time, and when i’m out organising an outfit or shopping, I can picture everything I have, this way I can make sure that I purchase things that will will go well with other pieces that I already own.

My shoes used to be in a massive pile on the floor until I converted an old TV unit into a shoe rack and organised everything, same with the bags, they were in a small box, but I couldn’t even deal seeing my bags out of shape, crumpled, without even being able to see what I have.

Sometimes your ‘Wardrobe malfunctions’ are literally due to the state of your wardrobe, and I can say that from experience!

Yes. That is Iron Man on the right, and yes, that is Logan Lerman, One Direction and the Jonas Brothers on the left. I am a fan girl. Deal.

You’re the moon of my life

My Sun and Stars
You're the moon of my life

This look is inspired by season 4 Game of Thrones… Not just because I am obsessed with the series, but because once I saw this dress, it reminded me of the incredibly romantic and amazing relationship between Daenerys and Drogo, and the part in the story when they call each other “moon of my life” and “my sun and stars”, and everyone ended up loving them as a couple.

This is also a look that I have been slowly trying to achieve by purchasing the boots, a similar bag, and a leather jacket. It’s all apart of my quest to mix casual and dressy. It’s also an expression of all of my latest obsessions, which are dresses, leather and black. All I’ve been wearing lately is black and I love it so much.

Also, the Melbourne weather is finally allowing me to wear Autumn/Winter clothes, and I’m so happy because Autumn/Winter is my favourite season in fashion!

My main goal is to achieve an outfit similar to this

With the Autumn/Winter season creeping up on us over here in Australia, and the return of Game of Thrones to our screens, I think it’s safe to say that obsessions can easily (and subconsciously) influence our style!

Last but not least, even in Game of Thrones, they know a thing or two about fashion (hint: spoiler)

Recent obsession: Leather jackets.

I blessed myself with the gift of a leather jacket last weekend, and honestly, I haven’t stopped wearing it.

I am so obsessed that I’ve found myself walking around my house wearing it. I’m not even ashamed to admit so.

The point being that leather jackets are a staple for everyone’s wardrobe, no matter your age, gender, or style. Leather jackets come in many different cuts, styles and designs, and so, finding one to suit you won’t be that difficult.

Leather jackets aren’t just a trend. They have been around for decades, and more than that are a piece that no one should go without! Along with the LBD, silk white shirt and tailored black blazer, the leather jacket is a piece that should, and will, complete any wardrobe!

One last thing: Leather jackets can be worn with almost anything!

Mishaps and Mischief: How things going from bad to worse make amazing memories

Last Thursday night (21/11) two of my best friends and I went to the Elle and Topshop Australia reader event held in Topshop Chapel Street. It was a day full of mishaps, train missing, high heel running, makeovers and being stranded in the city till midnight!

If that wasn’t all, the outfit I had planned to wear, wait for it, ripped!

So, Instead I had to re-create my whole outfit, and boy was I upset!

However, things happen for a reason, and that night full of mishaps and outfit emergencies ended up being one of my highlights of my year with two of my favourite people!

Elle and Topshop held a great event. The evening started with drinks and a kind welcome at the door by the staff. It was followed by some browsing of the store and persuading ourselves to buy things because we were offered a 20% discount on all items. The store offered free makeovers and held a trend talk with the editors of Elle Australia and their takes on how European trends seen in the Spring fashion festival can be reproduced using Topshop items. I would like to make a personal shout out and a special thank you to the makeup artist; She was a very sweet lady who done a magnificent job when choosing colours and products that would suit us. Her kindess made the wait in line for the makeover worth it!

At the end of the night, although we were stranded in Chapel Street, it was an unforgettable night with an amazing atmosphere and fantastic, energetic and fun people!

One last thing: A special thank you to my two gemelli (twins), without you guys, I would not have enjoyed myself so much. You guys never fail to make me smile and never judge me, even when I vigorously plan things and they don’t turn out how I want them to and we end up missing trains, running uphill and downhill in heels and speed walking in the wrong direction!

Love you guys! xx

Keep an eye out for a post on the makeup products we tried, tested and purchased and how different lipstick colours match different people’s skin tones, types and style!

The Mrs Carter Show World Tour

Starring Beyoncé Knowles as Mrs Carter!

Last night I was lucky enough to bare witness to the greatness that is Beyoncé!
We sung, we danced, we lost our voices and we came to the realisation that when we grow up, we want to be Beyoncé

Being in the presence of Queen Bey, I decided that I needed to achieve a certain style. It had to be practical for a concert, suitable to the weather, classy, cool and have a touch of Beyoncé.

Here is what I ended up with

20131027-141528.jpg

American Apparel Disco Pants in black
Official Beyoncé ‘Kaleidoscope’ top
PU sleeved jacket
Sportsgirl lipstick in ‘Dark Angel’
M.A.C Cosmetics primer and foundation
Sephora mascara

Mrs Carter was amazing, inspirational and empowering and I will definitely be going to see her again if I get the chance!
