V-DAY LUST LIST

Happy Valentines day lovers!
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about this very commercialised day, it’s that it’s no use for us single ladies to be resentful; I mean, why waste our energy on that when we can just treat ourselves to the things we really love, like a bit of Dolce and Valentino? (Especially Valentino because the name is just really suited to the cause)
This year though, I’ve gone the step further and actually got myself a hot date.
Yep, that’s right. This V-day I’ll be rolling in gifts and enjoying a nice meal with someone I love.
I mean, not romantically though.
Valentine’s day is a day to celebrate love, and although traditionally people celebrate courtly love, that doesn’t mean you can’t show your love for your family or friends, right?
So this year, my valentine is my niece. Throughout our whole lives we’ve lived so far away from each other, and once every year or so, one of us would make the trip interstate to see each other, and during those short few days, we’d have to re-connect and get to know each other again. Now, she has finally moved to Melbourne and we’re getting to know each other properly; she’s like my fourth sister and I love her.
So, if you’re like me and don’t normally give two shits about Valentine’s Day, maybe this year you should just embrace the day and show the people that you love how you feel.
Then again, though, there’s no shame in revelling in the material things you love too, so feel free to tick something off of my LUST LIST

Au Naturale

Au Natural

I know, judging by the title you’d assume this was a makeup post… I would too but then once you look at the radiating effortlessness from this edit, you can understand why I called it “Au Naturale”

There’s nothing I’m loving more at the moment than completely neutral, block coloured outfits with detailed accessories. This set is one of my ideal outfits to wear both casually during the day, or more dressed up at night, only needing to change your hairstyle!

This edit also features a good mix of high end designers and economical statement pieces, such as the beige coat which is only $26!!!

If you're reading this it's too late

I am so freaking happy that Drake has released a new album, and i’m even happier that so far it’s better than Nothing Was The Same. There’s no relation between this edit and the album other than the fact that I listened to it for the first time when I made it.

What I love about this look is that it’s all mixed high fashion, very textured, sophisticated, and very feminine, which just ticks off every girl’s outfit list! I especially love the detailing in the Hervé Léger skirt and the Jimmy Choo sandals, not to mention the dainty yet completely characteristic necklace, and the silver and black simple but statement arm jewellery! The small Chanel clutch costs more than the skirt and the top put together but it’s such a classic piece that you could wear it every day of your life and then pass onto your great grandkids who can also wear it every day of their lives.

(It’s not practical but its a nice little idea don’t you think?)

Fifty shades of #CCCCCC

Fifty shades of #CCCCCC

Hi everyone, I am so so sorry for not posting in a very long time! It’s been such a busy, stressful time for me; between graduating from high school and studying for exams i’ve barely had time to breathe, let alone dedicate myself to The Fashion Journals!

I have tried, though! I have two articles (and a half) which are still in drafting, and many photos I need to post!

When it comes to writing, I try to provide you with the best quality of writing that I can possibly produce, and therefore am very fussy with what I post, hence why nothing has been published! I don’t like having quick, rushed posts and prefer to be committed to the piece before I show it to you all!

With that being said, during my (frequent) study breaks, I did make some edits and they will all be up soon, also, as from November 21st, I will be 100% focused on TFJ and will be doing everything possible to bring you guys great content!

Thanks for bearing with me, love you guys! x

Must have: Mesh tops

Mesh and gold

Not only are mesh tops so so so chic, but they’re so easy to wear!

Regardless of your style, whether you prefer boho chic, casual or sports-luxe, mesh is easily adaptable to suit every occasion for every style.

In the edit above, i’ve gone for the Parisian chic type of look that has been sported a lot recently during Paris Fashion Week.

Personally, I love mesh and I can see mesh pieces becoming classic items which can be worn for quite some time, almost as versatile as the LBD!

On Trend: Faux Leather Skirts!

One of the chicest skirts to ever grace the streets – Faux leather skirts!

The versatility with the simple, leather look skirt is incredible. This skirt can be anything that you want it to be. Elegant? check, Casual? check.

The faux leather skirt is the biggest staple in street style at the moment, for anyone and any style!

I want everyone to stop considering the leather skirt as a risk, and befriend the amazing piece, as there are styles and cuts to suit everyone, every shape, and every mood!

Here are some more examples of how you can style a leather skirt for various occasions! (Excuse the poses, i’m a writer and stylist, not a model!)

Favourite beauty products July/August

So I must admit, most of these products I have had before July/August but I have become absolutely hung up on these products, and have or will use them excessively, and recommend you do the same!

Let’s start with the basics which should become of your skin care regiment (if they aren’t already). I absolutely love the Formula 10.0.6 skin care range, and I use So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser  which is a 2-in-1 cleanser and toner, which doesn’t require any water. All you do is use makeup remover pads, a few drops and voila! Of course, I only use this when I feel very lazy or don’t have time to wash my face properly, but this definitely does the trick. It cleanses well and leaves my skin feeling clean and smooth.

Also from Formula 10.0.6, I use the Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser which uses passionfruit and green tea to keep my skin clean and oil free, while the green tea exfoliates!

But, I don’t just use these products alone. For Christmas in 2012, my mum bought me the Models Prefer Skin Cleanser, which is almost exactly like a Clarisonic Cleansing System, but is a quarter of the price! This system comes with four attachments: A soft bristled brush, a normal brush, a  sponge applicator, and massage fingers. I found that the normal brush is too harsh on my skin, as I have very sensitive skin, but after cleansing with it, I feel like I have also taken away a layer of skin, which is actually a good thing. Normally though, I use the soft bristled brush because I don’t wear that much makeup (normally just foundation and concealer). The sponge applicator is good for moisturiser, but I don’t use it often because I noticed that it doesn’t apply the moisturiser in a way that makes it blend into my skin, but rather leaves a thin layer in certain areas which I then need to massage in by hand. As for the massage fingers, I find them a bit awkward to use, but they do feel relaxing! When my jaw feels tense from clenching (which I do often), I use the massage fingers to hover over the sore area (externally) and find that it does release tension, but unless you open your mouth and separate your teeth, you might feel a very discomforting vibration through your teeth! The system is battery powered, which is fine by me because the batteries last for a very long time! If you are considering purchasing a Clarisonic (which can range from $100-$250), I suggest you try the Models Prefer which you can purchase at Priceline or Target for $15, which basically does the exact same job, and even comes with more attachments with no extra cost!

Now, moving on to makeup tools!

One of my gorgeous friends bought me Real Techniques Core Collection Cosmetic Brushes, which automatically makes her my makeup guardian angel, because since then, my foundation, concealer and lipstick has been flawless***

The Detailer Brush is so perfect for applying lipstick without a liner or perfecting lip arches, but also for concealing problem areas with precision!

The Pointed Foundation Brush is my best friend. It literally applies any liquid foundation evenly and the point is perfectly angled to reach all areas of the face and neck!

Finally, I use the Buffing Brush solely for powder foundation, which I use to blend around my jaw line, chin and neck to ensure that my coverage is even and that I have no foundation lines!

TFJ7

What I noticed, however, is that sometimes I would be in a rush and would be unable to spend 10 or so minutes applying concealer and foundation with the brushes and taking all the precautions to make sure that everything was blended in properly, so, intrigued by  the colour and desperate to buy a product from Mecca Maxima, I purchased the Kit Cosmetics Blender Sphere which has once again revolutionised my makeup routine, and I cannot urge you enough to join in on it’s impeccable and immaculate makeup blending powers!

The Kit Cosmetics Blender Sphere is the highly economic price of $14.99 and is literally one of the best cosmetic tools I have bought! The Blender Sphere speeds up the process of applying makeup while providing unblemished and accurate coverage. The sphere shape means that the slightly pointed ends can be used to reach smaller areas or places that require more detailed blending, while the middle of the sponge can be used to blend in the larger areas of the face.

Honestly, the Blender Sphere is a tool that I can’t imagine not using, and works so perfectly hand-in-hand with the Real Techniques cosmetic brushes!

This month, being August and 4 months away from the opening of Sephora in Sydney, Australia, I have decided that I will continue to use the best mascara I have ever purchased.

It was the Sephora Collection Full Action Extreme Effect Mascara in Ultra Black. This mascara is perfect. I am not even exaggerating. It lengthens, volumises, perfectly separates (I hate clumped eyelashes!), and curves your lashes without the need of an eyelash curler! Not only is the quality amazing, but it does wonders for your lashes! Before this mascara, I would apply an annoying amount of mascara repetitively to my lashes, which not only damaged them, but felt uncomfortable! With the Sephora Collection mascara, I found that I only need one or two layers before my lashes look great! What’s even better? It’s affordable!

It seems as though the Sephora Collection eye makeup products dominate above the other brands which Sephora sells, because I also love the Sephora Collection Long-lasting Eyeliner in 01 Noir Black. The precision I get with this liquid eyeliner is incredible! Before this eyeliner, I barely even bothered with liner because I already knew that it would take a miracle before I could perfect my liner, but with this product, I have been able to master the art of eyeliner multiple times thanks to the high precision ultra-fine bristle brush.

After all of that eye makeup, you’re going to need a good, gentle product that can remove the liner and mascara without tearing out lashes, creating ‘panda eyes’, or your average cleanser where you risk going red-eyed from accidentally opening your eyes to make sure you’ve removed everything before rinsing!

I use the Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. I was given this product as a sample when I purchased the mascara and liner, and I wish I purchased a bottle bigger than 25ml! All you do is apply a few drops of the serum to a makeup remover pad and gently wipe your eyes. The serum not only removes makeup, but strengthens the lashes with it’s lash strengthening complex, which is perfect for people who wear contacts and others with sensitive eyes! The product is literally for everyone so try it!

TFJ5

Lip balm seems like an easy product to buy, but a quality balm is hard to come across! A few years ago I was on a very strong medication for my skin, where dry lips were a major side effect. It was so harsh that laughing was painful, and giving people a polite smile was out of the question. Out of desperation I used Vaseline but it was so impractical, especially when I was in class, the last thing I wanted to do was pull out a jar of Vaseline. My troubles came to end end when I discovered Maybelline Baby Lips.

I’m not sure what it is, but Baby Lips has continued to be my favourite lip balm that I have ever tried. At the generous price of $3.95, Baby Lips moisturises your lips almost instantly. First, a few minutes after application, you begin to shed the dry skin (if there is any), which then leaves you with smooth and cushioned lips that taste really, really nice! I just finished my favourite Menthol flavoured balm, and today replaced it with the Mango Pie flavour, which I hadn’t tried before, but am really liking! Since trying Maybelline Baby Lips I don’t think I can use any other balm!

TFJ1Last year I won a competition, and included in the package was a voucher for a makeover with Gorgeous Cosmetics in Melbourne Central, which I redeemed and discovered the incredible lipsticks! A little short on money, I could only purchase one item that the lovely makeup artist used on me, but I am so happy I decided on the lipstick! The colour is a deep, dark red called Shiraz (M29), which is the perfect winter colour!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely love my two Chanel lipsticks for their quality and vibrance, but I can honestly and justly compare the quality of Gorgeous Cosmetics to the quality of Chanel! The lipstick is long lasting and remains vibrant, and I love the canister that it’s in! Yes, the Chanel quality is slightly better (which you would expect) but Gorgeous Cosmetics lipsticks are very close in standard for a little over half the price of a Chanel lipstick!

TFJ10

Finally, my 13th favourite beauty product of July/August is…

My M.A.C Cosmetics Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in ‘More To Love‘ This hot pink liner of perfectness is exactly as described: Long wearing. What I love about this lip pencil is that the quality is so good that if I wanted to, I could wear it without lipstick by lining then filling in my lips. The colour is bold and makes a statement on it’s own! It also brings back memories, as I purchased it in Dubai Airport on the way home from Italy! The crayon texture makes it glide on accurately and smoothly, while staying on without smudging!

It’s the perfect mediator when you don’t feel like wearing lipstick, but want a beautifully vibrant colour on your lips!

TFJ9 TFJ8

So that’s it! Those are my favourite beauty products of July/August which are gracing my makeup bag for the month!

An organised mess

Wardrobes can be a woman’s best friend and worst enemy.

I’ve had a few emails asking to see my wardrobe, and it’s nothing special in comparison to some other wardrobes, but the contents of that wardrobe is something i’m gradually becoming very proud of.

But, there is one thing that I cannot stand, and that it is clutter. I can’t think, I can’t focus and I can’t make decisions, therefore a messy wardrobe is not an option for me.

Above are photos of my wardrobe, which may look a bit messy to you, but to me, it is an organised haven of possible outfits and accessories!

I literally have everything hanging in an order… By memory it goes

  • Newest pieces
  • Skirts
  • Jeans
  • Singlets
  • Cami’s
  • Plain T-shirts
  • Printed T-shirts
  • Open/Button up knits
  • Knitted jumpers (Organised by brand)
  • Hoodies
  • Active Wear
  • Vests
  • Jackets
  • Coats
  • Sentimental pieces that can’t be flattened into a box

I know, It sounds almost OCD, but it’s not, in fact, it’s actually one of the best systems I could have thought of. I can literally get ready in record time, and when i’m out organising an outfit or shopping, I can picture everything I have, this way I can make sure that I purchase things that will will go well with other pieces that I already own.

My shoes used to be in a massive pile on the floor until I converted an old TV unit into a shoe rack and organised everything, same with the bags, they were in a small box, but I couldn’t even deal seeing my bags out of shape, crumpled, without even being able to see what I have.

Sometimes your ‘Wardrobe malfunctions’ are literally due to the state of your wardrobe, and I can say that from experience!

Yes. That is Iron Man on the right, and yes, that is Logan Lerman, One Direction and the Jonas Brothers on the left. I am a fan girl. Deal.

Some of the best for a lot less

When I first immersed myself in the glittering world of makeup, I said to myself that I would only use “the best” of brands and products. At the time, I mostly saw makeup as a time consuming burden… I had just turned 16 and was never a massive fan of painting my face.

On my 16th birthday, I decided that I would use my birthday and christmas money to go on a shopping spree, and I had a long list prepared, and at the time, American Apparel Disco Pants were #1, but #2 and #3 were the basics of every girl’s makeup collection: Foundation and a classic red lipstick.

photo

I chose M.A.C Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid in NC25 and Chanel Rogue Allure Lip Colour in 104 Passion. At the time, the foundation cost $49 AUD and the lipstick cost another $50. I’m about to state the obvious, but that came to a total of $99, not mentioning the extra $10 I had to spend on a foundation pump that the foundation didn’t come with. At the time, I felt like I was ballin’ because not only was I working most days of the week (during summer holidays) but my birthday and christmas fall within 13 days of each other, so $110(ish) didn’t seem like a lot.

Now days though, I definitely do not have the luxury to spend $49 on a foundation, but I ran out and desperately needed a replacement, and all I could spare was a very minimal $15. I felt like I was going from Tiffany’s to Target, but instead, I went from M.A.C to Rimmel… and I liked it.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I tried the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation in 200 Soft Beige and found that I got a good coverage, no irritation and a natural looking shade! The foundation applied easily, was smooth and was long lasting. I must admit that I was very impressed; I bought a $15 foundation and was happy with it?

It was like the cosmetic gods were looking down on me, and graced me with a quality foundation for an affordable price!

One thing that I did notice, however, was that the Rimmel London Foundation required more than one pump and did make my skin become oily in the T-Zone. This isn’t much of a problem, as throughout the day my skin felt smooth and comfortable, and the oiliness would go away with some concealer or primer underneath. I also noticed that I didn’t need to use primer with this foundation.

A few weeks later I also purchased the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer which visibly helped my skin with a regard to coverage. I don’t have the best skin, so finding a concealer that actually works isn’t that easy, but with Rimmel Wake Me Up, I was pleasantly surprised. At the RRP of $14.95, I purchased it for $12 at Priceline.

So, Inside my pretty pink makeup bag (which over time has become fuller and fuller due to a small obsession with cosmetics, specifically lipstick)  is Rimmel London’s Wake Me Up Foundation and Concealer and I couldn’t be happier with the quality for the price!

All black everything: get the look!

All black everything: get the look!

Hi everyone! First off, I’d like to apologise for not posting in ages, school is back on and has been so crazy from the get-go!

I have a few things planned for TFJ and will announce it all with time, but for now, here is a quick get the look post from a recent outfit that I absolutely loved (and didn’t even care if I became an outfit repeater!)

Over the school break, a couple of friends and I ventured into the city to shoot photos for a media folio, and to eat an awesome lunch at TGIF Melbourne Central. While we were there, the opportunity to shoot at the State Library came up, so we walked across and got some shots!

Here are a few which show the outfit, and you can get the look below!

My boots, however, are cut-out boots, and are from Lipstik Shoes, and the watch, ring, necklace and earrings in the edit above are some accessories that I absolutely would have loved to team with this outfit. Instead, I am wearing a black and gold spiked necklace from Colette by Colette Hayman, and an Ingersoll Disney watch.

Photography thanks to Sarah C!
