Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin review!

It’s a known fact that a good base provides the foundation for a good makeup day (no pun intended) and sometimes having a good base requires a lot of time and effort to ensure that coverage is smooth and flattering.

It’s no secret that my skin isn’t the easiest surface to cover, not only do I have way too many acne scars, but because of the stress i’ve been under this year, I also have my fair share of unwelcome blemishes. So, along with the redness and the new oil that has developed in my T-Zone (which never existed until 3 months ago) I have had many difficulties finding a decently priced foundation and concealer that would actually work.

For a few months I was using the Rimmel London ‘Wake Me Up foundation and concealer, and although it was a great product, lately I felt that “good enough” just wasn’t good enough. Once that ran out I switched to the Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation, which is really good, the coverage is great and the consistency is comfortable but also reliable. A few days after purchasing this, however, I was given the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin foundation and concealer. Since hearing about it’s release, I was very interested in trying it, but never got around to buying it, so when the opportunity to review the product came about, I jumped at it straight away!

Firstly, once I got past the excitement of receiving these products, I unwrapped the package as if I were a five year old and was unwrapping the biggest christmas present ever. Looking at the two bottles filled me up with pride – I was finally seeing physical results of blogging! (or as I like to call them – “Blogger Perks”)

Then, once the excitement subsided and I showed the unopened products to everyone on my Snapchat list, I ventured off to try the products!

The foundation at first seemed like it had a very thin consistency, which worried me because I thought “great, imagine how quickly i’m going to get through this!” because one pump didn’t seem enough to cover my face. Before adding a second pump, I thought I should see how much product comes out with one pump. It was actually the perfect amount! Then the second thing that crossed my mind was “Okay, so if the consistency is so thin, but the amount was good, should I use a second pump to make sure that I have a good coverage?”. The answer was no! The SuperStay Better Skin foundation gave me an even coverage that hid a lot of my scars… and this was without concealer!

Then I added the concealer on top of my scars and blemishes (mostly on my cheeks) and found that the scars disappeared and the redness no longer existed! It seemed almost too good to be true! Then I thought “okay so if it’s covering this well, I don’t think it will last in the heat this coming summer” especially considering how thin the consistency really was. Lucky for me, Melbourne weather pulled through to give me a beautiful 29 degree day, perfect product testing weather!

Here is just some background info about the SuperStay Better Skin products:

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin is Maybelline’s first vitamin enriched long wear foundation with skin improving Actyl-C. It provides all-day coverage and even has SPF 14!

So to break that down, it’s a bottle full of facial goodness that not only covers imperfections, but helps to improve them, while protecting your skin from the harsh UV rays that you may encounter!

May I just say that after almost 5 days of using the SuperStay Better Skin products, I am not disappointed! For the price, this product is fantastic! The only (somewhat) negative comment I can make about this product is that sometimes I accidentally dispense too much concealer just from holding the bottle, so honestly, if packaging is the only concern, I wouldn’t worry at all about the abilities of this product.

I am happy to say that I’ve found a economically priced foundation and concealer duo that actually works for me, and provides my skin with the coverage it needs! I can only imagine how great this product would be for people who don’t have as many skin problems as I do.

This product also claims to give you “better looking skin in 3 weeks” – Although i’ve only had it for almost a week, I can see that it actually does help my skin. The oil that I complained about earlier doesn’t build up when i’m wearing it, and i’ve noticed that it hasn’t aggravated my skin like a lot of other products do. I’ve also noticed that I can use this product without primer and the coverage lasts all day!

… To think I was going to spend $59 on a NARS foundation!

I will do a product update in 3 weeks to confirm whether the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin foundation and concealer really does give you better skin… I have very high hopes!

For now though, I do recommend this product to everyone who is in need of a great foundation for a great price!

You can get the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation ($21.95) here, and the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Concealer ($14.95) here

Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Light Nude

Rimmel London Natural Bronzer

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black

NARS Pencil Sharpener

Essence Kajal Pencil in 04 White

So I haven’t really dabbled in the area of contouring until recently, when I went into Mecca Maxima and enquired about blush, and the makeup artist transformed me into a swan using the Bobbi Brown Nectar Blush, NARS Albatross Highlighter and NARS Laguna Bronzer. In a matter of 3 minutes my complexion looked so great and the shape of my face was well defined and flattering!

Unfortunately, these three incredible products are quite costly, so, as per usual, an obsession took over and I had to find a cheaper alternative!

To do so, I ventured into Priceline and spoke to one of the employees, who gave me honest advice regarding the products. She said that a highlighter isn’t necessary, it’s just something to emphasise certain areas of the face, but since we never needed it before, why do we need it now?

So she showed me to the Rimmel London Natural Bronzer, which would compliment my tone, but also the Maybelline Fit Me Blush which I purchased beforehand (Princeline were having a massive cosmetic sale!) The two together are great! Granted, the effect isn’t as prominent as it was with the NARS and Bobbi Brown products, but for now it’s just as good, especially for someone still learning to contour properly! To apply the Bronzer, I use a Real Techniques Contour Brush and I am still looking for a decently priced, quality blush brush (the brush that came with the blush was very rough on the skin and didn’t apply the product properly)

Then, as previously stated in my June Beauty Wishlist, I was very interested in purchasing either a Bobbi Brown or Gorgeous Cosmetics Gel Eyeliner, but yet again, at the moment, spending over $20 on an eyeliner is unjustifiable. Instead, I found my solution in a Maybelline Gel Eyeliner, which is retailed at $16.95 AUD, but I purchased at $15 at Priceline.

I also wanted to try lining my waterline to accentuate my eyes and give the illusion that they are bigger, and so I purchased the Essence Kajal eye pencil in 04 white. At the inexpensive cost of  $2.00, I was surprised by the quality and the easy, smooth application, especially for the price!

Finally, my favourite beauty tool that I have bought is the NARS pencil sharpener! My mum purchased a Manicare sharpener a few weeks before I purchased the NARS one, and I just wasn’t sold. The NARS sharpener is so perfect! I never thought I would love a pencil sharpener! It is a dual sharpener, so it can sharpen different sized pencils, and a cute little pick that you can use when you open up the little removable compartment that catches the shavings so you can clean the blades! I went crazy sharpening all of my cosmetic pencils and was so surprised at how with two turns, you get a fully sharpened pencil with no faults!

Also, because Mecca is so lovely, I was given a sample pot of the Too Faced Primer which is quite good, but I prefer my MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Primer.

These few little products have changed how I apply and think of makeup. It can do a lot more than conceal, and emphasise, but also shapes and contours, and it’s so easy to do!

Let me know in the comments section whether you would like to see a tutorial on contouring or know more about my updated makeup routine!

Favourite beauty products July/August

So I must admit, most of these products I have had before July/August but I have become absolutely hung up on these products, and have or will use them excessively, and recommend you do the same!

Let’s start with the basics which should become of your skin care regiment (if they aren’t already). I absolutely love the Formula 10.0.6 skin care range, and I use So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser  which is a 2-in-1 cleanser and toner, which doesn’t require any water. All you do is use makeup remover pads, a few drops and voila! Of course, I only use this when I feel very lazy or don’t have time to wash my face properly, but this definitely does the trick. It cleanses well and leaves my skin feeling clean and smooth.

Also from Formula 10.0.6, I use the Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser which uses passionfruit and green tea to keep my skin clean and oil free, while the green tea exfoliates!

But, I don’t just use these products alone. For Christmas in 2012, my mum bought me the Models Prefer Skin Cleanser, which is almost exactly like a Clarisonic Cleansing System, but is a quarter of the price! This system comes with four attachments: A soft bristled brush, a normal brush, a  sponge applicator, and massage fingers. I found that the normal brush is too harsh on my skin, as I have very sensitive skin, but after cleansing with it, I feel like I have also taken away a layer of skin, which is actually a good thing. Normally though, I use the soft bristled brush because I don’t wear that much makeup (normally just foundation and concealer). The sponge applicator is good for moisturiser, but I don’t use it often because I noticed that it doesn’t apply the moisturiser in a way that makes it blend into my skin, but rather leaves a thin layer in certain areas which I then need to massage in by hand. As for the massage fingers, I find them a bit awkward to use, but they do feel relaxing! When my jaw feels tense from clenching (which I do often), I use the massage fingers to hover over the sore area (externally) and find that it does release tension, but unless you open your mouth and separate your teeth, you might feel a very discomforting vibration through your teeth! The system is battery powered, which is fine by me because the batteries last for a very long time! If you are considering purchasing a Clarisonic (which can range from $100-$250), I suggest you try the Models Prefer which you can purchase at Priceline or Target for $15, which basically does the exact same job, and even comes with more attachments with no extra cost!

Now, moving on to makeup tools!

One of my gorgeous friends bought me Real Techniques Core Collection Cosmetic Brushes, which automatically makes her my makeup guardian angel, because since then, my foundation, concealer and lipstick has been flawless***

The Detailer Brush is so perfect for applying lipstick without a liner or perfecting lip arches, but also for concealing problem areas with precision!

The Pointed Foundation Brush is my best friend. It literally applies any liquid foundation evenly and the point is perfectly angled to reach all areas of the face and neck!

Finally, I use the Buffing Brush solely for powder foundation, which I use to blend around my jaw line, chin and neck to ensure that my coverage is even and that I have no foundation lines!

TFJ7

What I noticed, however, is that sometimes I would be in a rush and would be unable to spend 10 or so minutes applying concealer and foundation with the brushes and taking all the precautions to make sure that everything was blended in properly, so, intrigued by  the colour and desperate to buy a product from Mecca Maxima, I purchased the Kit Cosmetics Blender Sphere which has once again revolutionised my makeup routine, and I cannot urge you enough to join in on it’s impeccable and immaculate makeup blending powers!

The Kit Cosmetics Blender Sphere is the highly economic price of $14.99 and is literally one of the best cosmetic tools I have bought! The Blender Sphere speeds up the process of applying makeup while providing unblemished and accurate coverage. The sphere shape means that the slightly pointed ends can be used to reach smaller areas or places that require more detailed blending, while the middle of the sponge can be used to blend in the larger areas of the face.

Honestly, the Blender Sphere is a tool that I can’t imagine not using, and works so perfectly hand-in-hand with the Real Techniques cosmetic brushes!

This month, being August and 4 months away from the opening of Sephora in Sydney, Australia, I have decided that I will continue to use the best mascara I have ever purchased.

It was the Sephora Collection Full Action Extreme Effect Mascara in Ultra Black. This mascara is perfect. I am not even exaggerating. It lengthens, volumises, perfectly separates (I hate clumped eyelashes!), and curves your lashes without the need of an eyelash curler! Not only is the quality amazing, but it does wonders for your lashes! Before this mascara, I would apply an annoying amount of mascara repetitively to my lashes, which not only damaged them, but felt uncomfortable! With the Sephora Collection mascara, I found that I only need one or two layers before my lashes look great! What’s even better? It’s affordable!

It seems as though the Sephora Collection eye makeup products dominate above the other brands which Sephora sells, because I also love the Sephora Collection Long-lasting Eyeliner in 01 Noir Black. The precision I get with this liquid eyeliner is incredible! Before this eyeliner, I barely even bothered with liner because I already knew that it would take a miracle before I could perfect my liner, but with this product, I have been able to master the art of eyeliner multiple times thanks to the high precision ultra-fine bristle brush.

After all of that eye makeup, you’re going to need a good, gentle product that can remove the liner and mascara without tearing out lashes, creating ‘panda eyes’, or your average cleanser where you risk going red-eyed from accidentally opening your eyes to make sure you’ve removed everything before rinsing!

I use the Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. I was given this product as a sample when I purchased the mascara and liner, and I wish I purchased a bottle bigger than 25ml! All you do is apply a few drops of the serum to a makeup remover pad and gently wipe your eyes. The serum not only removes makeup, but strengthens the lashes with it’s lash strengthening complex, which is perfect for people who wear contacts and others with sensitive eyes! The product is literally for everyone so try it!

Lip balm seems like an easy product to buy, but a quality balm is hard to come across! A few years ago I was on a very strong medication for my skin, where dry lips were a major side effect. It was so harsh that laughing was painful, and giving people a polite smile was out of the question. Out of desperation I used Vaseline but it was so impractical, especially when I was in class, the last thing I wanted to do was pull out a jar of Vaseline. My troubles came to end end when I discovered Maybelline Baby Lips.

I’m not sure what it is, but Baby Lips has continued to be my favourite lip balm that I have ever tried. At the generous price of $3.95, Baby Lips moisturises your lips almost instantly. First, a few minutes after application, you begin to shed the dry skin (if there is any), which then leaves you with smooth and cushioned lips that taste really, really nice! I just finished my favourite Menthol flavoured balm, and today replaced it with the Mango Pie flavour, which I hadn’t tried before, but am really liking! Since trying Maybelline Baby Lips I don’t think I can use any other balm!

TFJ1Last year I won a competition, and included in the package was a voucher for a makeover with Gorgeous Cosmetics in Melbourne Central, which I redeemed and discovered the incredible lipsticks! A little short on money, I could only purchase one item that the lovely makeup artist used on me, but I am so happy I decided on the lipstick! The colour is a deep, dark red called Shiraz (M29), which is the perfect winter colour!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely love my two Chanel lipsticks for their quality and vibrance, but I can honestly and justly compare the quality of Gorgeous Cosmetics to the quality of Chanel! The lipstick is long lasting and remains vibrant, and I love the canister that it’s in! Yes, the Chanel quality is slightly better (which you would expect) but Gorgeous Cosmetics lipsticks are very close in standard for a little over half the price of a Chanel lipstick!

TFJ10

Finally, my 13th favourite beauty product of July/August is…

My M.A.C Cosmetics Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in ‘More To Love‘ This hot pink liner of perfectness is exactly as described: Long wearing. What I love about this lip pencil is that the quality is so good that if I wanted to, I could wear it without lipstick by lining then filling in my lips. The colour is bold and makes a statement on it’s own! It also brings back memories, as I purchased it in Dubai Airport on the way home from Italy! The crayon texture makes it glide on accurately and smoothly, while staying on without smudging!

It’s the perfect mediator when you don’t feel like wearing lipstick, but want a beautifully vibrant colour on your lips!

So that’s it! Those are my favourite beauty products of July/August which are gracing my makeup bag for the month!

Some of the best for a lot less

When I first immersed myself in the glittering world of makeup, I said to myself that I would only use “the best” of brands and products. At the time, I mostly saw makeup as a time consuming burden… I had just turned 16 and was never a massive fan of painting my face.

On my 16th birthday, I decided that I would use my birthday and christmas money to go on a shopping spree, and I had a long list prepared, and at the time, American Apparel Disco Pants were #1, but #2 and #3 were the basics of every girl’s makeup collection: Foundation and a classic red lipstick.

photo

I chose M.A.C Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid in NC25 and Chanel Rogue Allure Lip Colour in 104 Passion. At the time, the foundation cost $49 AUD and the lipstick cost another $50. I’m about to state the obvious, but that came to a total of $99, not mentioning the extra $10 I had to spend on a foundation pump that the foundation didn’t come with. At the time, I felt like I was ballin’ because not only was I working most days of the week (during summer holidays) but my birthday and christmas fall within 13 days of each other, so $110(ish) didn’t seem like a lot.

Now days though, I definitely do not have the luxury to spend $49 on a foundation, but I ran out and desperately needed a replacement, and all I could spare was a very minimal $15. I felt like I was going from Tiffany’s to Target, but instead, I went from M.A.C to Rimmel… and I liked it.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I tried the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation in 200 Soft Beige and found that I got a good coverage, no irritation and a natural looking shade! The foundation applied easily, was smooth and was long lasting. I must admit that I was very impressed; I bought a $15 foundation and was happy with it?

It was like the cosmetic gods were looking down on me, and graced me with a quality foundation for an affordable price!

One thing that I did notice, however, was that the Rimmel London Foundation required more than one pump and did make my skin become oily in the T-Zone. This isn’t much of a problem, as throughout the day my skin felt smooth and comfortable, and the oiliness would go away with some concealer or primer underneath. I also noticed that I didn’t need to use primer with this foundation.

A few weeks later I also purchased the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer which visibly helped my skin with a regard to coverage. I don’t have the best skin, so finding a concealer that actually works isn’t that easy, but with Rimmel Wake Me Up, I was pleasantly surprised. At the RRP of $14.95, I purchased it for $12 at Priceline.

So, Inside my pretty pink makeup bag (which over time has become fuller and fuller due to a small obsession with cosmetics, specifically lipstick)  is Rimmel London’s Wake Me Up Foundation and Concealer and I couldn’t be happier with the quality for the price!

It’s all about the brow

“You must never underestimate the power of the eyebrow”
Eyebrows are one of those things that make you feel accomplished. I know, it sounds so ridiculous, but it’s true! When you get your eyebrows done, everything just feels better… your face is shaped, your eyes stand out, and you can raise your eyebrow without thinking “crap! I’m drawing attention to a completely messy brow!”
As someone who does a lot of subconscious eyebrow raising, I find that I’m the most confident in doing so when they’re perfectly shaped and taken care of. Yes, sometimes they can get a bit neglected, but once you start taking care of them, you notice when a single hair is out of place!
If you’re like me, and would never trust yourself to wax/thread your own eyebrows, there are a few things you can do which can keep them looking shaped and defined in between waxes/threading.
You can use:
1) Eyebrow gels. These fantastic inventions act as hairspray would to your fly aways, only this time, on your eyebrows! I use the Essence Lash and Brow Gel Mascara which is pretty good for the cheap price of $3.50 AUD!
2) Eyebrow powders. Use these to fill in your eyebrows and give more definition. A helpful hint; you don’t need to use actual eyebrow powder, you can use eyeshadow! It is essentially a very similar formula to the eyebrow powder, but can be more economic if you already have eyeshadow that would match the colour of your eyebrows! Apply with an angled brush for precision, e voila!
(only use matte eyeshadows in colours that match the colour of your brows!)
3) Eyebrow pencils. The obvious must-have when it comes to eyebrows! Pencils can precisely define the shape of your eyebrows and help you to create (or fix) your shaping.
I would recommend practice with the eyebrow pencil, sometimes the lines can look too harsh, and make your brows look fake, and you don’t want that!

Rozalia Russian: Melbourne Socialite talks fashion, beauty and lifestyle with The Fashion Journals

As a young woman living in Melbourne I find it necessary to attempt to feel and look my best where possible. With the advances of social media, men and women universally emulate others in regards to their style. These people become our style icons and I was lucky enough to interview my local icon, Rozalia Russian.

Interestedly enough, I came to know of Rozalia through Instagram. Don’t ask how I found her, because all I remember was seeing the most amazingly chic outfit on this woman who was holding my favorite Louis Vuitton Speedy bag, complete with her initials, R.R.

Perception is a crucial element of the new social media takeover. Rozalia gives her followers a sense of luxury, elegance and affordability, which is why I thought an interview with her would be extremely beneficial to The Fashion Journals and will help to prove that all of these qualities that Rozalia possesses and that I try to preach with my posts is incredibly achievable.

TFJ: As a woman with influence over a mass populace of people, did it surprise you to find through social media that so many women emulate your style?

ROSA: It is very humbling when girls approach me saying that they love my style and often buy the same pieces that I have. I didn’t start my instagram thinking that I would turn it into a daily fashion blog, however I am lucky that people seem to like my style and value my opinion.

TFJ: Did you ever imagine that you, your style and voice would have this type of impact on others?
ROSA: Definitely not. As I mentioned I started Instagram just like everyone else as a fun way to share photos with friends. I then started getting comments from girls asking where my certain clothing items were from that they saw in the pictures. One thing lead to another and before I knew it I was being approached by different clothing labels asking me to work with them.

It has definitely been a fun year and a half and I have been given some amazing opportunities that I am very grateful for.

TFJ: You have recently become a mother, congratulations! Seeing your progress throughout the pregnancy left many people in awe of how well you managed your style. Do you have any tips for women in the same position as you were?
ROSA: My tip would be one that I think many pregnant women have heard before… ‘Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you can let yourself go’
I used to hear heaps of woman say I’m pregnant so I’m going to eat junk food everyday. I think it is important to not use the pregnancy as an excuse. Yes enjoy yourself and you have to indulge (mine was KFC) but not everyday! Also get out of those tracksuits pants, put on some make up and go and get your nails done.
TFJ: What are some of your favourite local and international brands?
ROSA: Australia has so many amazing designers a few local brands would be Cameo, Senso, AJE, Witchery, Camilla and Marc, Scanalan and Theodore, Elliot, Dion Lee, Zimmerman, Nicholas, hunt no more.Overseas would be Alexander Wang, Saint Laurent, Zara, Dolce and Gabbana.
TFJ: Would you say that you are one to mix and match luxury items with inexpensive pieces?
ROSA: Absolutely. I simply do not think it is practically to wear luxury pieces from top to bottom every day.I am a sucker for designer heels so that is definently what I splurge on. You could be wearing a $100 dress but pair it with an amazing pair of luxury heels and you will look a million dollars.
TFJ: Do you have any predictions for trends in the coming months?
ROSA: My prediction is that we are going to go into winter with a very neutral colour pallet. I think we are going to go back to basics and the wardrobe will consist of black, white and a lot of grey! Capes will still be in, as well as statement coats! Over the knee boots will also make a comeback.TFJ: Is there any beauty products that you cannot live without?ROSA: Concealer! I used to love it before but even more so now being a mum and running off little sleep.

Along with concealer, if I only have 5 min to get ready my beauty products that I have to use would be blush, eyebrow pencil and mascara.

TFJ: Adjusting to motherhood is a big thing, would you say that there is anything that you wish you knew before hand that you know now?

ROSA: To not only carry spare clothes for baby but also for your self!

Two words… Leaking Nappies!

TFJ: Do you think that your new baby girl, Willow already has a style that suits her? Do you have any aspirations for her regarding fashion?

ROSA: It kills me to admit this but Willow doesn’t like dressing up! Getting dressed isn’t one of her favourite activities yet as she doesn’t like things going over her head and her mum trying to keep her foot still whilst putting on shoes! Haha!

In terms of what suits her, I think at this age when you cant really tell if they look like a girl or boy its just easier to dress her in pastel pinks.

She isn’t a fan of reds, greens, yellows, purples or hot pink (well her mum isn’t)

TFJ: How do you achieve, what looks like, an effortless, elegant and fun look? Is there any rules that you follow?
ROSA: I think it is important to dress for your body shape.Just because that midriff top and highwasited pencil skirt looks good on your BFF doesn’t mean it will look good on you.Once you establish what suits you then dressing will be easier as you will be more comfortable and be able to portray that effortless look.

“Your wardrobe should be made up of 80% style and 20% trends.

Every season we see a new trend coming through weather it be peplum, midriff tops, high-tops etc.…

As quickly as these trends come in they will go out of fashion.

Style however will never be out of fashion, What I mean by style is the investment classic pieces which consist of, a well tailored blazer, a silk white shirt, good fitting basic t shirts, a simple black pointy heel etc.

These classic items should be a staple in every girl’s wardrobe as they will never be out of fashion.”

So, my lovely readers, take note of what Mrs Russian has said, trust [us], you will hit the mark every time!

Mishaps and Mischief: How things going from bad to worse make amazing memories

Last Thursday night (21/11) two of my best friends and I went to the Elle and Topshop Australia reader event held in Topshop Chapel Street. It was a day full of mishaps, train missing, high heel running, makeovers and being stranded in the city till midnight!

If that wasn’t all, the outfit I had planned to wear, wait for it, ripped!

So, Instead I had to re-create my whole outfit, and boy was I upset!

However, things happen for a reason, and that night full of mishaps and outfit emergencies ended up being one of my highlights of my year with two of my favourite people!

Elle and Topshop held a great event. The evening started with drinks and a kind welcome at the door by the staff. It was followed by some browsing of the store and persuading ourselves to buy things because we were offered a 20% discount on all items. The store offered free makeovers and held a trend talk with the editors of Elle Australia and their takes on how European trends seen in the Spring fashion festival can be reproduced using Topshop items. I would like to make a personal shout out and a special thank you to the makeup artist; She was a very sweet lady who done a magnificent job when choosing colours and products that would suit us. Her kindess made the wait in line for the makeover worth it!

At the end of the night, although we were stranded in Chapel Street, it was an unforgettable night with an amazing atmosphere and fantastic, energetic and fun people!

One last thing: A special thank you to my two gemelli (twins), without you guys, I would not have enjoyed myself so much. You guys never fail to make me smile and never judge me, even when I vigorously plan things and they don’t turn out how I want them to and we end up missing trains, running uphill and downhill in heels and speed walking in the wrong direction!

Love you guys! xx

Keep an eye out for a post on the makeup products we tried, tested and purchased and how different lipstick colours match different people’s skin tones, types and style!

M.A.C. VS Napoleon Perdis

The Great Debate: Which is better quality? M.A.C. Cosmetics or Napoleon Perdis?
I have encountered many debates about this very topic repeatedly and now I have decided to set the record straight and prove that M.A.C. Cosmetics is of a much higher quality, standard and value than the cosmetics provided by Napoleon Perdis.
With M.A.C. the costs are extremely reasonable for what you are purchasing. You are being invited to treat yourself to constant value and exceptional products with almost equal quality to that you could expect from a designer brand of makeup and beauty products. The flawless coverage and global recognition further supports M.A.C. Cosmetics and it’s high standard.
Napoleon Perdis on the other hand over-charges you for it’s true product, which are re-labelled and re-packaged goods coming from cheaper cosmetics brand ‘Le Femme’, the only difference being the hefty price tag, with Napoleon charging 300% (Yes, 300%) more for the same product.
Napoleon also promotes itself to be sensitive to the skin, however many cases have erupted where Napoleon products have irritated the skin and caused things ranging from minor break-outs to more serious skin rashes and irritations. Not to say some people haven’t had bad experiences with M.A.C., however it is not even half as common as it is with Napoleon Perdis.
Founded in 1984, M.A.C. was originally made for and sold to professional makeup artists, with the intention to be only of high quality and standard to be the product of professional makeup artists worldwide. The company’s global recognition means that there are hundreds of M.A.C. stores scattered throughout [over] 66 countries (based on 2007 statistics). Where as Napoleon Perdis stores can be found in it’s home Australia, it’s neighboring country New Zealand and in the US.
Aside from global appreciation of M.A.C., the company has collaborated with many celebrities and companies to create signature lines. Singers Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga have all had recurring lines of cosmetics, signature shades and tools with M.A.C.
Major labels have also collaborated with M.A.C.; Labels such as Disney with their ‘Venomous Villains‘ range, Barbie with their ‘Barbie loves Mac‘ line, Hello Kitty and DC Comics with their ‘Wonder woman‘ range and many more.
M.A.C. is exclusively sold in M.A.C. specialist stores and specific department stores (such as Myer). Napoleon Perdis is sold in NP stores, pharmacies, Priceline stores and all department stores (including Target, Kmart and Big W).
M.A.C. is a stable, exclusive, consistent and affordable brand with an extremely large range to suit each different user’s skin type and tone, where as Napoleon Perdis falls short of it’s ‘affordable and wearable’ approach.
M.A.C. VS Napoleon Perdis

If forced to choose between the two; M.A.C. Cosmetics would hands-down be the brand that I choose

Christmas Wishlist!

Christmas is only 10 weeks away, and so, I thought I would get a head start on my christmas wishlist!

These items I have been absolutely drooling over for months now, and one way or another, I will get my hands on them!

christmas wishlist

Dear Mum (or Santa, you choose who you want to be):

For Christmas this year I would like:

  1. Boyfriend Jeans
  2. Black leather jacket
  3. Denim jacket
  4. Black Skort (Zara)
  5. White Skort (Zara)
  6. Platforms (Windsor Smith)
  7. Nude patent heels
  8. Black Fedora
  9. Sunglasses (as similar as possible to the style in the photo)
  10. M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick (Colour: Pure Zen)

Don’t think that I am expecting to get all ten items. This is just something to choose from. Happy Shopping Mummy! 😉 xxxx

I am only joking, my dear readers!… I am not that selfish, materialistic or acquisitive!

Plus, Christmas is about much, much more. If you are not a religious person, Christmas is a time to spend with family, friends and people who you hold near and dear. I love having my (extremely large) family come together. It is the one time throughout the year that every single member of the family is together. It is a season of happiness, forgiveness and gratefulness… A time to reminisce in the past and make memories to speak about in the future.
